About the project
EMEC has signed a letter of intent with the owner Gadea BV for the use of the roof of the building at Giel Duijkersstraat 5 in Maastricht. The company is eager to contribute to a socially sustainable project and is making its roof available for this purpose. Given its location, it is wise to shift the location of the solar power plant on paper one postcode to the ‘left’ so that more residents of Maastricht fall within the postal code area, reducing overlap with the postal code area of the Veilingweg project.
In the brochure, you can find the necessary information about this new plant. We are also starting the registration of participants for this project now. It will be another plant that is connected to a small consumer connection because this is the only way to get a connection from ENEXIS. This means that we will maintain about 170 panels (470 Wp) with an annual production of 68,000 kWh, thereby being comparable in capacity to the plants in Meerssen and Bunde. We need at least 16 participants, but more is also possible.
From soon, you can register your interest via our site. If that’s not possible these days, please temporarily send an email to info@emec.nu.
Key figures for the participants
Number of panels: 170
Investment per Tile: €50,-
Minimum investment: € 250 (5 Tegelkes)
Maximum investment: € 3.500 (70 Tegelkes).
Expected return: 4 – 4,5%.
How does it work financially?
EMEC will apply for the SCE (Subsidy for Cooperative Energy Production) at the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) on April 2, 2024. This is necessary to have a solid foundation for the business case over 15 years.
If EMEC is granted the subsidy, the project will officially start. However, we will already start looking for members before that time because we assume that the subsidy will be granted. The following postcode residents can participate: 6225, 6325, 6267, 6268, 6227, 6224 (see figure postal codes).
A minimum of 16 participants within the mentioned postcodes is required to comply with the SCE scheme. Each participant can decide for themselves how many “Tegelkes” of €50 to participate with, but there is a minimum of €250 and a maximum of €3500. Only when we have enough participants and are sure that the financing is secured, will we instruct an installer to build the installation. The members/participants thus provide the financing for the installation with their contribution/investment. EMEC, as a cooperative, owns the installation.
EMEC pays out an amount to the participants of the solar power plant each year, from the obtained subsidy and the sale of electricity, proportional to the investment. With this, we can achieve a return for the members, over 15 years, of at least 4 – 4.5%. However, this is not a guarantee but a reasonable assumption based on our experience with our previous projects and the experience of other cooperatives in the Netherlands with similar projects.
Planning
As soon as the SCE scheme opens at RVO (1-2-2024), we will submit our application. After that, it will take up to 13 weeks, until early May, before a response can be expected. In the meantime, a tender will be issued for installers to submit their bids. ENEXIS will only be engaged once the SCE has definitively been granted. This applies to all actions that incur costs. If the processes proceed normally, an installation can be realized after the summer. The moment for participants to make payments is when all lights are green and the installation is actually under construction.
Participate without your own money
In this project, we also allow people who do not have sufficient capital to invest themselves to participate in the solar power plant, thus making the energy transition something that involves us all, not just those who can afford to invest themselves. This is explained in the brochure.
