About the project
Since the spring of 2019, 250 solar panels have been installed on the roof of the Meerssen town hall. The solar panels will remain here for at least 15 years and will produce sustainable energy during this period. The project saves CO2 and also provides an attractive financial return for the members.
Who is participating?
It is 32 residents of Meerssen, members of the energy cooperative, who consider green energy important and prefer to generate it locally, who have invested in this energy plant. Participation is often linked to the fact that participants cannot or do not want to place panels on their own roof because of: too much shade, a north-facing roof, no roof, a monumental building, or “I don’t think it looks good on my house.” For these reasons, they have chosen the Postcode Roos to (extra) produce sustainable electricity.
Key figures for participants
Number of panels: 250
Deposit per panel: € 315.-
Expected yield in the 1st year: € 35.94
Expected yield in 15 years: € 496.65
Expected return: 6%
What has it yielded so far?
Since the start of the energy plant, more has been generated per year than projected. This is partly due to the beautiful sunny summers, but also due to the fact that we have made a realistic estimate of the yield. For the first full production year (2020), it looks like we have 9% more production than we predicted. Good for the environment and good for the members!
