About the project
EMEC will install its second solar power plant on the roof of plant grower Pascal Jongen’s company, Marnis, in Bunde in 2022. This will be EMEC’s fourth solar power plant in three years. In 2021, we covered the first part of the roof with 200 panels and now it’s time for the second part. The project will be called Marnis Bunde II.
In March, we will apply for the necessary SCE subsidy and start recruiting members. Some preparatory work has already been done during the construction of the first solar power plant on this roof, which saves time. An important point is that the part of the roof on which the new solar power plant will be located still needs to be renovated. To save costs, we will ask EMEC members to help remove the bitumen layer (demolition work) from the roof. Of course, a professional will provide the roof with a new layer, which will last for decades.
The plan is, if everything goes well and we find enough participants, that the plant will be operational by the end of September. This will be the fourth solar power plant within EMEC in Meerssen.
How does it work financially?
EMEC will apply for the necessary SCE (Subsidy Cooperative Energy Generation) from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) from March 1st.
If EMEC is awarded the subsidy, the project will officially start. However, before that, we will already be looking for members because we assume that the subsidy will be awarded. We need at least 15 members within Groot Meerssen (see postcodes in the flyer) to comply with the SCE regulations. Each participant can decide for themselves how much they want to participate with, but there is a minimum of €250 and a maximum of €7500. Only when we have enough participants and are sure that the financing is in place, will we give the installer the order to build the installation. The members/participants are therefore responsible for financing the installation with their participation/deposit. EMEC, the cooperative, owns the installation.
EMEC pays out an amount to the participants of the solar power plant annually, based on their investment, from the received subsidy and the sale of electricity. We can achieve a return, over 15 years, of 4 – 4.5% for the members. This is not a guarantee but a reasonable assumption based on our previous projects’ experience and other cooperatives in the Netherlands with similar projects.
Key figures for participants
Number of panels: 200
Deposit per tile: €50
Minimum deposit: €250 (5 tiles)
Expected return: 4 – 4.5%
You can indicate your interest by registering via the link below. Registration does not oblige you to participate. That is only the case when a signed contract has been drawn up between the participant and EMEC.

Participate without your own money
In this project, we also allow people who are not wealthy enough to invest themselves to participate in the solar power plant, making the energy transition something for all of us, not just for people who can invest. The brochure explains this in more detail.
