Solar Panels

Free energy

The sun is a virtually inexhaustible source of energy. With solar panels we can convert that “free” energy in the form of light into electricity. With this we can provide for our own energy needs and invest in the energy of the future. Of course it is not completely free, because an investment in an installation is required. But fortunately it pays for itself quickly.

Net Metering

In the Netherlands, the sun averages 1,000 kWh per square meter per year. However, in the winter, the output is lower than in the summer because the days are shorter and the sun is lower in the sky. Because we also use electricity in the winter (for computers and lighting, for example), there is a mismatch: in the summer, we generate a lot of energy but use relatively little, while in the winter, we generate little energy but use relatively more. Until 2027, the “net metering arrangement” allows us to compensate for any deficits in the winter with surpluses in the summer. So, solar panels are always worthwhile.
With the disappearance of the “net metering arrangement”, solar panels will still be profitable. The return on investment period will be longer, but how much will only become clear when all the details are known.

Future of Net Metering

From 2023 to 2031, the net metering scheme will be slowly phased out. We will eventually receive a “feed-in tariff” from the energy company. We will only be reimbursed for the price of the electricity without the government levies (energy tax and sustainable energy surcharge). The phase-out will last for 8 years. It is expected that the payback time for an installation will remain the same, approximately 10 years, mainly because the purchase price (per kWh) of an installation is expected to decrease.

What does EMEC do?

EMEC does not sell solar panels themselves. However, we can help you with the financial side of things and provide advice. For example, you may contact us if you have quotes from different installers and wonder what the differences are. By the way, we advise you to have at least two quotes made so that you have something to compare.
